Ewan has written and contributed to many shows during his career. In 2012 He wrote and performed the play Formby for the Edinburgh International Festival. Telling the story of music hall and film star George Formby the show received five star reviews and successfully toured the UK including a performance at The Hackney Empire.

Most recently Ewan was commisioned to write a verbatim play charting the rise of the folk club scene in London entitled Sweet Thames. The show played to a sold out crowd at London's Cecil Sharp House and subsequently played at several folk festivals where it was met with great acclaim.

Ewan aslo builds puppets for use on stage and TV.
