The East Band

Here's a new Youtube page from The East Band!

In 2019 Eliza Carthy MBE (Mercury nominated musician and legend of the British folk scene) was commissioned by the Norwich Festival to give a performance featuring songs and music from the East coast of Britain.

Thus The East Band was born, joined by Eliza's father Martin Carthy MBE (leading light of the folk revival who inspired contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, as well as later artists such as Richard Thompson, Billy Bragg and Graham Coxon), Sheema Mukherjee (Transglobal Underground, The Imagined Village) Barney Morse-Brown (also known as Duotone, Robert Plant & Saving Grace) Ewan Wardrop (The Servants Ball, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, The Bo Diddlers)

North by Northwest

Fresh from a UK tour this spring/summer, I had a fantastic time playing the lead role of Roger Thornhill in North by Northwest. A Wise Children production Directed by the legendary Emma Rice https://www.britishtheatreguide.info/reviews/north-by-northw-york-theatre-ro-2426

Emma Rice takes on film legend Alfred Hitchcock in this riotously funny reworking that turns the original thriller on its head. With just six shape-shifting performers, a fabulous ‘50s soundtrack and a LOT of suitcases, this dazzling production plays with the heart, mind and soul. Join us for a night of glamour, romance, jeopardy and a liberal sprinkling of tender truths.

“Ewan Wardrop captures Cary Grant’s droll distemper from the film and appears like a comical Hitchcockian 007 with his dry martinis and smoothness” - The Guardian

“At the centre of the whirlwind is Ewan Wardrop as Roger Thornhill, the suave advertising executive mistaken for a non-existent spy. Wardrop brings a delightful blend of Cary Grant charm and Chaplinesque physicality, navigating the absurdities of mistaken identity with impeccable comic timing” - Theatre Weekly

“Ewan Wardrop delivers a compelling performance as Roger Thornhill, capturing the essence of the character without resorting to mimicry of Cary Grant’s iconic portrayal” - A Younger Perspective

The Buddha of Suburbia

This show was a huge hit for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2024. With a transfer run at the Barbican in London I had a great time playing theatre director Matthew Pike. Directed by Emma Rice

As pretentious wonder-director Matthew Pike, Ewan Wardrop is the second huge hit of the piece” - Theatre Monkey

“But perhaps the biggest laughs come from Ewan Wardrop's portrayal of Matthew Pike, a theatre director. Brilliantly meta, he breaks down the barriers of theatre with a sledgehammer, ripping up the narrative and provoking wry laughter from the press night audience” - All That Dazzles

“Ewan Wardrop is outstanding as the creepy theatre director who take (Karim) under is wing” - The New York Times

“Wardrop's big shot theatre director, an absolute gem of manipulative preposterousness” - Stratford Herald
